My Poor Baby

We have had a lovely weekend, the weather has been nice. We have been outside in the garden. Al, Dad and G put the new fence up by the fish pond on Saturday, the kids milled in and out and it was generally a thoroughly lovely day. Em and I went to the Guide shop and did not buy even more badges to sew on our blankets. (You can choose to believe that or not) We also got some new resources for the Guides which look good fun to use. Yesterday was much of the same just chilling and being together.

This morning, I went in to wake K up and she seemed a bit quiet, by the time she got downstairs; she was in floods of tears. I asked her what was the matter did she hurt? Was she in pain? And she said no. I asked her if she was worried about school, she said no. She had done all her homework and that she and William had planned what they were going to play at lunchtime. So asked if anything else was bothering her and she said no. She just shrugged her shoulders and said that she didn’t know why she was crying, she just was….. In the end I put it down to a bad dream and told her that she must have woken in the middle of it and it was playing on her mind. She went off to school happily enough, a bit red eyed but no hot forehead, no clammy skin nothing.

I went off to work and this niggled at me, in the end I rang the school who told me she was not a well little girl and it would be best if I picked her up. You have never seen such a change; she was white faced, bags under her eyes, and cold cold hands. She looked, well, bloody awful. I rang the doctors and she said she would see her straight away. I took her in and she took her temperature with a thermometer which was like something from star trek (it made not contact with her skin at all, it was like a point and shoot type thing…..very cool) and it turns out she has an infection in her ears and throat and a temp that is running at about 38.5! Doctor says the temperature explains the crying this morning apparently it is the same as a baby crying when teething. So my poor baby is currently tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle, 2 blankets, lots of drinks and her books feeling very sorry for herself. I however am fighting more mummy guilt because I sent her to school in the first place. Aaahhhhh guilt, don’t you just love it!

Sorry to hear your K is not well, don't feel too guilty, you did quiz her to check before school.

Poor K - hope she's better soon.

It's so difficult to know what's wrong with them. I sent both of mine to school and pre-school last week and got called in to take them home.

I like the sound of the thermometer!!

This won't make any difference because you are a mum and we are programmed to feel guilty, but you were straight there once you knew she was ill and are taking great care of her now. You have done nothing wrong, zero, zip!! Got it? Good!!! ;-))) x

Hope K is better soon. Mums always feel guilty even if we have done the very best we can, it is as inbuilt as men sleeping through babies crying - even when the monitor is right next to them!
Where can I get one of those thermometers? My little ones hate it in their ears!

It's always bad when you get ratty with them because they are up all night. Then when you finally wake up properly you realise they've actually been poorly all night (not just trying to deprive you of sleep). Even worse when you come down with it a few days later and realise just how crap they felt.

Hope she's better now. Same happened to me a couple of years ago. He said he didn't want to go to school. I sent him and then two hours later I got the call to say he'd just been sick

Sorry to hear that you daughter has got earache. It is so painful! I sent my son to school with a brokern nose a couple of weeks ago. It was a bit swollen but it did not hurt and he had an important exam. I think the teacher s must have thought I was a terrible mother! Hope K gets better soon. Ciao. Antonella

Thank you all for your lovely comments. K's temp is going down, she still looks very pale. I am now going down with it, so I feel less guilty....hehhehehe

Hope she feels better soon, and that you do too. And don't feel guilty (easier said than done, of course)!

Hope she feels better soon. I had an ear infection last week and I know the pain. Horrid.

Aw, bless. Don't feel guilty, it's amazing how quickly these things develop. Wonder why the school didn't phone you though?
